I dropped Dropbox years ago when it had the gall to assert that MP3s that I'd ripped from my own CDs were "pirated". I won't use a system that snoops on the files I store with it. I suggest looking at Sync.com as an alternative. They don't hold the master encryption password for your files.
- sneak 4y agoSyncthing makes paying for dropbox obsolete.
- baby 4y agoWait what? I’ve always stored my whole MP3 collections there, since the early days of dropbox, and never heard of that
- cal85 4y agoAre you sure you are remembering right? Dropbox scans your files for copyright infringement? Has anyone else encountered this?
- kilroy123 4y agoYes. They nuked my account and I lost over a decade's worth of data in a moment.
- alpaca128 4y agoMost cloud services do it. Microsoft has been scanning all uploaded pictures for their visual contents for years, Google had this famous case last year where they reported a Drive user for an uploaded picture. It's E2E encrypted or they have full access and make use of it, simple as that.
