I've always heard this is intentional with scammers. Their goal is to get you to call the number, so they have a cost if the user responds. Having some errors filters out the less gullible, who won't fall for the scam and will just cost the call center money.
- kcartlidge 4y agoMicrosoft Research wrote an interesting post on it [1]. Their conclusion was similar: "By sending an email that repels all but the most gullible the scammer gets the most promising marks to self-select, and tilts the true to false positive ratio in his favor."
