Drug-resistant germ found in eye drops infects 55 in 12 states; 1 dead
- Maursault 4y agoWow. Don't they pasteurize this stuff?
- icepat 4y agoNot sure if you need to pasteurize, but this sounds like a breakdown in the sterile field for the manufacturing process more than anything else. That or a contaminated supply chain somewhere.
- John23832 4y agoThis has been said ad nauseam, but bacterial infections are going to become a huge concern. Viruses are baddies because their treatment is largely more specific, often just treatment rather than cure, and they are more resilient. Broad spectrum antibiotics kept bactieral infections from being the same. Bacterial resistance is pushing bacterial infections into the same category.

- BXLE_1-1-BitIs1 4y agoSpeculation:did the bacteria find nutrients in the product that allowed it to multiply? As a prescription eye drop user for over a decade, this scares me.
- hinata08 4y agoThe stuff is branded ezricare, sold on Amazon, and made by a company called Global Pharma Healthcare Private Limited. Are they just companies I don't happen to know because I'm dumb, or anyone can just set up his lab to sell medicine on Amazon? How is the supply chain monitored for drugs ?
