- m348e912 4y agoSpeaking anecdotally, nothing enhances my mood and energy level better than vitamin d. I take (5k-10k+ IU) of d3 + k2 daily in the morning, in amounts much more than the recommended daily allowance (600IU). It has also helped me sleep at night. If you're depressed and are thinking about getting on anti-depressents/SSRI's, consider exploring vitamin D as an option. I am not trying to shill, but I have tried a bunch of vitamin d3, and this one has been the best. - rogerkirkness 4y agoFair warning to readers: going above 10k a day without cycling it will likely lead to too much Vitamin D within 6-12 months. Consider a max of 5k UI/day.
- m348e912 4y agorogerkirkness is correct, too much vitamin D over time can lead to complications such as hypercalcemia (a build up of calcium in the blood) This condition is fairly rare, and can be partly mitigated with vitamin K2. According to this paper, (adult) patients treated with vitamin D toxicity took doses ranging from 600,000IU daily to 60 Million IU over several months. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6115827/ https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6115827/
- troydavis 4y agoAlso, mail-order vitamin D tests are only $50, so there's no reason to guess about your current or future levels. Know for sure: https://omegaquant.com/vitamin-d-test/ https://omegaquant.com/vitamin-d-test/ Any doctor's office can also do one, as can walk-in labs.
- rektide 4y agoSunshine is the best disinfectant... of the soul (too)? Surprise update to a classic expression.
- 1letterunixname 4y agoCan gain up to 20k IU in 30 minutes of full summer sun, although it requires Vitamin A status to be sufficient too. The issue is that sun causes wrinkles and is ionizing radiation. Better to just get the exact substrate needed without looking older or risking skin cancer.
- treeman79 4y agoI was having extreme daily migraines. Basically fully disabled. Walking into a store would leaving me in a horrible state in 10 minutes from the lights. D3 and later D3 with K2, plus a few others like Magnesium, E, B12, fish oil. And migraines are quite rare. I did have bloodwork showing a Vit D deficiency.
- 1letterunixname 4y agoMy absorption level is such I have to take ~12k IU per day to stay in the middle range.
- m348e912 4y agoTry a different brand vitamin d, I have found some absorb better than others.
- entropicgravity 4y agoAnecdotally, 2000iu of D3 has worked for my gout. If you suffer from gout try it, there's very little downside.
- anthk 4y agoIn half? Seriously? The change it's huge.
- tsol 4y agoVitamin D and magnesium deficiencies are both incredibly com, affecting 50+% of the US. The both can contribute to anxiety and depression as well. Everyone should supplement both
