They just shove in what's the most likely completion based on their training data. Most writing on the internet is by people with little grasp of character, believable dialogue, or compelling plot arcs (including twists). If you trained one on solely the scripts of the great films and literature of the past thousand years, maybe you'd get somewhere - or maybe it would just rehash the tropes with no understanding of what makes a great story. :shrug:
