The Pressing Need for Everyone to Quiet Their Egos (2018)
- bell-cot 4y agoIn the first paragraph... > We are more divided than ever as a species. Tribalism and identity politics are rampant... ...obviously counter-factual, if you're even vaguely familiar with world history. Yet the next para mentions "Enlightenment values" - with an Amazon affiliate link to a book on the subject. The blurb for which suggests that you won't learn much history of the Age of Enlightenment ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Age_of_Enlightenment https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Age_of_Enlightenment ) from the book. Whether the article's author is right or wrong in his thesis - he's already convinced me that he's writing a fact-free emotional appeal after 1 1/3 paragraphs. I remember the Good Old Days, when Scientific American seemed to actually care about things like facts. :(
