High security deposits can make Bay Area rent impossible
- jb1991 4y ago> In December, mere days before I began my house hunt, Assembly Member Matt Haney, D-San Francisco, introduced legislation that would limit security deposits to no more than one month’s rent. This reforms a decades-old state threshold that permits landlords to charge tenants security deposits that amount to two months’ rent.

- jb1991 4y agoTo be honest, cats can do quite a lot of damage and landlords have no idea of knowing what the likelihood of that is. And once a cat starts peeing in your house, that smell is almost impossible to get rid of, so I can see an owner being well motivated to guard against it. I actually live in a place right now where pets of any kind are not allowed.
