"Despite the huge number of questions I asked, and despite the lawyers that they undoubtedly employed along with the detectives and psychiatrists, somehow someone missed that I never sent back the signed contract. I promised nothing."
A fun eye opening read.
p.s.
This is actually a fascinating look at the hierarchy of enchantment that mass media affords. As spectators, we've sat enchanted in front of first Radio, then TV, and now the Net, initially as a huddling family, and now mostly individual pair of glued eyes. Also as spectators, we only see the final broadcast stage. This is where the author of the article gets to enchant us.
But behind the scene is apparently another set of stages, progressively narrower and more powerfully present, with the human stage props themselves subjected to formulaic enchantment. (Enchantment is the correct word here, imo.) We don't get the skinny on who has enchanted the top chef skimming the 15%. Must be quite a theater at that level and higher.
