I'm not from the UK and don't have a horse in the race, but a lot of people from the UK have been coming to where I live (Thailand) to receive medical care since I have lived here (more than 20 years) to escape the wait times. The few I spoke with definitely did not call NHS a beacon.
My few conversations are certainly anecdotal. However, the numbers of UK medical tourists isn't; it was around 4,000 in 2010 and estimated to be around that number each year, according to this paper [1], although it acknowledges the number is underestimated.

- defrost 4y agoI over simplified - the recent 12 years of UK conservatives have been really sticking the knife to the UK's NHS .. but it already had problems from prior rounds of UK conservative governance ... I suspect Thatcher started the trend as she was such a fan of privatised benefits at with socialised costs.
