At our org compiler about 2x slower because the anti-virus software must scan every changed file before it can be referenced (read). It's a domain that needs good security, but the "scan tax" is high when you factor in human (non) labor costs. It's probably overkill, but beyond my power to change.
- Jtsummers 4y agoMake sure it's not being scanned twice. We had a lab where the virus scanner was running on read and write, and then read again of the just generated and scanned object files. Switching so that it scanned at either read or write took the builds from 45 minutes down to 10-15 minutes (they also had purchased crappy slow spinning disk hard drives which introduced its own bottleneck, SSDs or even faster spinning disks would have made a world of difference too).
- warrenm 4y agocurious...why are source files required to be virus scanned? source is just text...unless you mean intermediate binary items that get linked later?
