I'll chip in with a vote for proper boots, I was going to say $500 Trickers but now I see that they are more like $800 new... but $300 on Ebay. And it's worth it - I've had two pairs (from ebay) that have lasted me for 10 years between them. Resoled many times, but still absolutely excellent. 10 years!
