The key here is that it can produce output that is at a glance reasonable to educated humans. Many people are saying that ChatGPT is "going to get big and change the world" in the meaning that it will be useful. I'm not yet onboard with that interpretation. I do think that it will change the world - it has the potential to decrease the reliability of information online by a few orders of magnitude.

ChatGPT and StableDiffusion are the first public exposures to models, looking like a crazy step function in capability. I believe they're indicators that change is coming, but the rate of change is probably a little off for most.
