Canadian team discovers power-draining flaw in most laptop and phone batteries
- mattpallissard 4y agoPolypropylene tubing is used in place of PVC (PET, not PVC was referenced in the article) when venting LNG/LP for a similar reason. It can handle the higher temperatures.
- MichaelZuo 4y agoVery likely everyone in the industry assumed PET based tape was inert because of some old reference-manual/paper/textbook from decades ago that claimed it was in some limited range of environmental conditions, and no one bothered to really check or question it later. Which raises the interesting question of how much low-hanging fruit there is in everything else?
- eurasiantiger 4y agoSo if PET is not inert because it releases phthalates, is it safe for storing beverages intended for long-term regular consumption?
- MichaelZuo 4y agoDepends on your definition of 'safe'. Any known plastic will release some non-zero amount of matter into the liquid. The difference is in how much more than zero.
- wkat4242 4y agoThat doesn't really answer the OP's question though. I'm kinda curious too now. I already heard that it's very bad to reuse PET bottles. I wonder if this is why.
- MichaelZuo 4y ago'safe' is different depending on context, so there cannot be a general answer.
- eurasiantiger 4y agoYou’re spreading disinformation.
- MichaelZuo 4y agoThis seems like low-effort trolling. What I've written is clearly observable and reproducible by anyone with basic labratory equipment.
- eurasiantiger 4y agoYour posts seem like low-effort shilling. Why are you not answering the obvious questions with the information you obviously have? Why all the gatekeeping?
- willcipriano 4y ago> They did a chemical analysis of the red substance and found it was dimethyl terephthalate (DMT). Going to be hearing about this on Rogan.
- schiffern 4y agoDifferent DMT. The article means the first one, while Joe often refers to the second one: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dimethyl_terephthalate https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dimethyl_terephthalate https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N,N-Dimethyltryptamine https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N,N-Dimethyltryptamine
