Uptime, status pages, and transparency calculus

After seeing a lot of comments about the recent Slack outages, thought I'd write-up my thoughts about why status pages so often become a battleground for transparency, based on my experience working at companies that went through similar journeys. I'd be super interested in other perspectives, especially if you've encountered non-obvious pressures that work against efforts to be fully transparent when it comes to public incident comms.
