San Francisco reparations committee proposes a $5M payment
- kleer001 4y ago> The committee has no authority to implement its recommendations. move along, nothing to see here
- thinking4real 4y agoImagine being an adult and having this mentality
- kleer001 4y ago50% of the population has below average intelligence. But seriously, the math tells us that IQs below 87 number about 16% of the population. Those people have have an difficult time remembering complex enough instructions that the US Army doesn't want them. With California's population of 330 million that's about 52 million people.
- anm89 4y agoActually sad that they are giving hope to working class people of some bag of money they will never see.
- bradhe 4y agoYeah this is actually a really good point, and I doubt they're thinking about this.
- onecommentman 4y agoSan Francisco has had issues with committee findings of late. https://missionlocal.org/2021/01/the-san-francisco-school-districts-renaming-debacle-has-been-a-historic-travesty/ https://missionlocal.org/2021/01/the-san-francisco-school-di...
- bobobob420 4y agoEveryone involved with this is a loser and should feel ashamed of themselves for proposing what is definitely the stupidest idea of 2023. They should propose decreasing the cost of education and then educating themselves. It’s mind boggling they’ve kept up this chirade for weeks now making a mockery of what the actual real issues are. Truly pathetic people
- benj111 4y agoWhy is reparations even being discussed. It's just wrong on so many levels. Society changes, things that were acceptable now aren't, we can't retroactively villify all acts we now deem unacceptable. What we should be concerned with is the here and now. If there's a proposal to increase equality in the here and now I'll listen to it. Saying your great great great grand parent was a slave doesn't make that case. Second why just black people. As far as I can go back on my family tree, I come from Welsh miners. I'm not going to compare it to slavery but it was undeniably shit. Do I deserve compensation for that? What about my forefathers and mothers not having the vote? My great granddad might have identified as gay or trans, do I deserve compensation for that? What about past attempts to get rid of the Welsh language?
- egberts1 4y agoIt was 13.4% in 1970 for census of Black San Franciscans. Now it is 5.1% at last (2020) census. Or about 64% reduction over 50 years, while SF population grew 13% over same 5 decades. Sure, SF citizens should be made to pay … dearly, but certainly not the rest of California, much less the nation. 1) http://www.bayareacensus.ca.gov/counties/SanFranciscoCounty70.htm http://www.bayareacensus.ca.gov/counties/SanFranciscoCounty7... 2) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_San_Francisco https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_San_Francisco
