- _a_a_a_ 4y agoIgniting a nuke is very difficult. 'just' is appropriate here.
- stuntkite 4y ago> if [Anti Aircraft] JUST put some holes in missile and disabled propulsion it could be much less dangerous. It's very very hard to hit a missile in flight. Trying to target just the propulsion is even harder. An admirable goal, but in the moment, especially because a lot of missiles are cluster munition and in a nuclear strike there's going to be multiple missiles flying all over the place.... Yes... just hit the propulsion. Heck, just target the guidance computer. Even better, just hit the CPU. Problem solved. Hopefully they figured that out.
- _a_a_a_ 4y ago> just hit the CPU EMP should do it. But otherwise, your point taken.
- oceanplexian 4y agoNuclear missiles are heavily shielded and rely on inertial navigation, so they need no outside source like GPS, radio, etc to get to their target. An EMP would not stop one.
- oceanplexian 4y agoIt is correct that it’s hard, but the answer depends on what kind of flight. Hitting something with a missile that’s moving 1,000MPH is a lot more realistic than something that’s moving 10,000MPH. This makes re-entry a problem but hitting missiles that just took off somewhat plausible.

- ilyt 4y agoWhich is why I put it in quotes. It's bad, but not "whole city dead" bad.
- stuntkite 4y agoShooting down nukes is always an everybody dies. MAD and all that. You can shoot down 98%. 2% still kills everybody. You can compartmentalize a hypothetical of one missile but that doesn’t take into account how our systems are designed to work.
