Tell HN: AOSP Calc had a nonconforming layout which place 0 below 2 instead of 1
Just noticed this now - most calculators (physical and virtual) places 0 either below 1 or spans both 1 and 2, while the old AOSP calculator and until recently the Google (Android) calculator (which was just updated to put 0 back under 1) had the 0 under 2 instead of 1. Did someone know why the AOSP calculator put 0 below 2 instead of the traditional 0 below 1?
- compressedgas 4y agoThat's because they had reused the layout of the telephone key pad with the first and third row swapped: 7 8 9 4 5 6 1 2 3 0
- fargle 4y agoISO-IEC-9995-4 first put out in 1994 talks about the 10-key layout for keyboards. none of this directly answers calculators, but it might be related. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO/IEC_9995 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO/IEC_9995 surprisingly, the 0 is centered under the 2. it can optionally be extended to under the 1. other surprise is that the backward telephone layout is an option - if i ever got a keyboard like that, i'd be annoyed.
