Radiooooo, the Musical Time Machine
- pncnmnp 4y agoThis is fascinating! It reminds me of "My 90s TV" (https://www.my90stv.com/ https://www.my90stv.com/).
- gala8y 4y agoSeriously cool. There are sites for 60s, 70s, 80s,... I just tried to make video pause... well, you couldn't.
- rajeck 4y agogreat interface for exploring world music - thanks for the share!

- wayeq 4y agoHow does it choose the song for each spacetime coordinate?
- dewey 4y agoIt's user submitted. If you are a registered user you can submit new entries.
- chasing 4y agoCan someone explain to me how music licensing works in an app like this? They claim it’s all above board, no?
- dewey 4y agoI think it could likely be licensed like an internet radio, as you can't directly pick a song. I remember that back in the days it was very cheap to get this license, maybe 20 euros / month or so and you could just stream with your Icecast server legally (At least in Germany).
- wave100 4y agoThis site I came across a few years ago might appeal to anyone who's prowling this comment section: https://everynoise.com/ https://everynoise.com/ Pretty much a scatterplot of a few thousand genres, based on some Spotify labels. The full methodology is explained at the bottom of the page.
- I-M-S 4y agoYes! And piggybacking this comment with https://radio.garden/ https://radio.garden/ - Google maps for radio stations around the globe!
- actionfromafar 4y agoIt has music from the 2070s.
- no_time 4y agoGreat site design. Works well on FF android and looks fittingly charming!
- vintermann 4y agoNo about page? What are they doing to prevent self-promotion spam? The number 1 thing I want when listening to historical music, by the way, is a short written context. Example: > This song was written by Werner Richard Heymann and Robert Gilbert for the 1930 musical film "Die Drei von der Tankstelle", and recorded by the Comedian Harmonists the same year. > This choral recording from a church in Volda in 1955 was the final record published by His Master's Voice in Norway. It was a perennial favourite request for Ønskekonserten, a radio program where people could call in requests, in the following years.
