  Would be better if they ran a tube from your nose to an earpiece with a modulated voice describing the smell of everything you passed like an accessibility reader.

    I guess that could work if there was a way to make it describe important smells (e.g gas leaks, or rotten food), and also have a way to optionally describe the surroundings as I imagine it would be very annoying to be constantly hearing about things you can just see (e.g a freshly brewed cup of coffee you are currently drinking). Makes me wonder if you could encode smell to straight audio though. Then every area could have a sort of hum.

  Sounds like a significant surgery will be required but who knows, maybe someday it will be as easy as dental implants and we'll end up with Smell-o-Vision.
