NASA Validates Revolutionary Propulsion Design for Deep Space Missions
- db48x 4y agoMaybe rotating detonation engines will actually work!
- sbierwagen 4y ago>While operating at full throttle, the RDRE produced over 4,000 pounds of thrust for nearly a minute at an average chamber pressure of 622 pounds per square inch, the highest pressure rating for this design on record. "For this design" doing a lot of work there. Raptor runs at 510,000 lbf and 4,400 psi chamber pressure.
- thehappypm 4y agoYes, that’s the whole point of the article!
- sbierwagen 4y agoSure, but they don't include that comparison, nor do they say in what way it is "revolutionary." "This design produces more power while using less fuel than today’s propulsion systems" Okay, what's the exhaust velocity or Isp? Doesn't say!
- deadlydose 4y agoYou should email them and let them know how fucking stupid you're making them look on Hacker News.
- db48x 4y agoThey’re probably just happy the thing didn’t explode, which is what they mostly did the first few times anyone tried to build one.
