Sometimes it seems these type of factories are so secret that we don’t hear about the, because they are… secret. Thirty years ago I heard about a “lights out” factory at Electrolux. But never really learned if it truly worked or not.
- GauntletWizard 4y agoI don't think it's as much that they're secret, as that there's few people to talk about them. There's a lot fewer people interacting with them because nobody works there.
- jiggawatts 4y agoSomething that occurred to me is that you get a lot of “horizontal gene transfer” between companies because of consultants and job-hopping. Just like in nature, there are limits to the distance between species / industries. I regularly see techniques considered to be old-hat in one industry be treated like bleeding edge experimental methods in another.
