It’s a post I wish I’d have written. I represented my employer at the time (98-00) at GSMA, MWIF, 3GPP/3GIP. The difference in cultures in the “big room” was a shock to this young engineer and product manager. Of course the really interesting stuff happened in smaller ante-rooms of the forum. I left that period orders of magnitude less naive about such large bodies, politics, vested interests, lobbying, and the standards making process in general. Incase you hadn’t guessed, I was part of the small delegation of “netheads”.
