ChatGPT is enabling script kiddies to write functional malware
- devwastaken 4y agoA couple lines of python, c# or whatever copy pasted off the net can also do that. Malware is just "bad ware", antivirus cannot differentiate intent unless it's obvious or matches an existing signature that is unique enough. The old rules still apply - if you download an executable that intends to be bad, and you run it, you're burned. This is why mac Ventura now enforces signatures for distribution, or the user has to manually disable protection on that executable. Similar to Linux desktops that will not run programs directly, must enable executable permissions on it. Windows is the last OS to not adopt this by default.
- cheald 4y ago"Script kiddies" are so-called because they run other peoples' software without understanding what it is they're using. They aren't developing their own exploits, or developing novel software. They just download and run someone else's knowledge. This isn't really anything different, IMO; it perhaps lowers the barrier a bit, but let's not pretend that low-skill malicious actors using tools they don't understand for bad purposes is anything novel.
