Is there a reasonable assumption Yahoo! was even salvageable by time Mayer took the reigns? From the outside looking in, it appeared Yahoo! was a ghost ship, sailing under previously established momentum with no wind in the sails. Piecemealing Yahoo! out Gordon Gekko style might have been the only realistic future to save groups/units that could operate without the mothership, so to speak. The spending/acquisition spree Mayer went on... I'm not certain what to make of that, however.
