Is it OK for an athlete to have an extraordinary gift and not use it?

- h2odragon 4y agoWhat if someone had ChatGPT level text models 20 years ago, and decided not to pursue their development? Was that "saving the world" from the evils everybody predicts for AI, or was it robbing the world of the good that software could have been doing all this time? Athletic accomplishments are almost always individual in nature and shared vicariously if at all; they can inspire but rarely can they actually impact the lives of others. Does that give them more license to be themselves, or less? (For the record, I think the individual owes themselves peace before they owe society any performance; but I'm aware others may reasonably have different opinions)
