  So, some of us who have been burned enough times are averse to proprietary software and would try to avoid using anything that we can't see the code to.

    Yeah, this is the first thing I look for in any potential tool I might use for coding especially. It also indicates likely platform independence since it's users are more likely to port it around, obviously one of VIs strong points.
