The cars don’t even have ultrasonic sensors any more. It’s a standard feature in all cars and Tesla is shipping without it. I wonder if people will realize that and question their buying decisions.
They want to transition park assist to Tesla vision but in the mean time, no park assist on the newest teslas.
- avgDev 4y agoNo ultra sonic sensors, no real blind spot monitoring system, no summon function because of sensor removal(which is still advertised).
- vardump 4y agoI wonder how Tesla is planning to remedy this. Not great for certain climates for sure.
- avgDev 4y ago"Tesla Vision", however, I am not sure how they can replace front sensors with a windshield mounted camera as some objects will be obstructed by front of the car.
- mrguyorama 4y agoDo they care? Fanbois absolutely believe the "vision will be better" nonsense and still buy the cars.
- trafficante 4y ago> no real blind spot monitoring system This is particularly obnoxious when most (if not all) modern economy vehicles have blind spot warning lights in the side view mirrors and yet the best my 3 can do is really janky live camera feeds and a solid red line on the highway visualization - both of which feel very unreliable and also require you to divert your attention to the screen (which is damn dangerous if you’re merging left but have to look right to see the screen). I just treat my Tesla like a car from the 90s and always do the standard “sideview mirror into the over the shoulder” glance whenever I’m changing lanes.

You are doing the correct thing anyways. I find it so concerning that so many people rely on the sensors ONLY. The sensors can fail. Your eyes/attention can fail. But having both fail simultaneously is rare and so you should employ both anyways.
- enslavedrobot 4y agoThe switch to vision is continuing. My car is doing better and better. I actually have measured the distance in cm the car reports vs the actual distance and the accuracy has improved. It's now within a few cm. Areas for improvement are near the sides of the bumpers, which still jump around a bit in low light.
- sorenjan 4y agoDoesn't seem to work at all in winter conditions. https://youtu.be/qBRDHWJrINM https://youtu.be/qBRDHWJrINM
- enslavedrobot 4y agoCan't comment on this video since it's impossible to tell what the hell is going on. My car has FSDbeta and has a different UI with clear vector space visualizations of everything around me. This is my experience. It keeps improving with each update. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a66KqUCnn5c https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a66KqUCnn5c
- panick21_ 4y ago99.9% of the people have no idea about these sensors and if the result is 20% better or worse in either direction, I don't think anybody would make this a major point in their buying choice.
- avgDev 4y agoCurrently there is no 20% better or worse, there is NOTHING. I drove a 2022 Model Y and it showed distance to objects using USS. 2023 does NOTHING. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qBRDHWJrINM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qBRDHWJrINM
- martindbp 4y agoNo USS, but instead you have this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZDxJUy3byc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZDxJUy3byc
- avgDev 4y agoWhat does FSD beta have to do with parking sensors?
- martindbp 4y agoIf you have good enough spatial awareness and memory, you may not need extra sensors. I can park a car without them, actually never parked a car with sensors or a camera in my life and it's never been a problem. Computers are super human at SLAM, FSD is super human at judging distances to cars etc. I'd probably still keep the sensors for now, but I think the lack of sensors is more than compensated by the fact that you have some of the most advanced perception and planning stack running in your personal car.
- avgDev 4y agoOh yeah because you can see an animal or a kid running or see cross traffic. Tesla isn't some $17k basic car. A car at price of $53k (Model Y), should have basic sensors a $23k civic has. You sound like a Tesla apologizer.
- martindbp 4y agoAnd you sound like a Tesla hater, what's your point? It's not exactly great for discussion to label any position as "apologist" so you can dismiss it. I don't understand what your point is about animals or kids running, USS cannot help with that while vision can. Ideally Teslas should have an additional camera on the front bumper for better coverage, but again humans don't.
- avgDev 4y agoSo, Tesla is scamming all the new Model Y owners, because tesla vision cannot replace USS with current hardware.
