- concordance 4y agoAssuming Google Translate is accurate, it's a server management solution.
- pshirshov 4y agoSkynet is a command execution and metric collection layer used in basic cluster ops. Nothing cool to be honest. Essentially it allows you to run a command on all the hosts matching a predicate. This was the easiest way to disrupt a whole datacenter for those who had enough privileges, I did it at least once. Also several times unnoticed bugs in my code shut down literally everything for noticeable periods of time. I've been developing the search orchestration system.
- lostmsu 4y agoThere's no confirmation about the number of machines the script is going to affect?
- capableweb 4y agoProbably, but irrelevant. What you really need is a confirmation if the sent command will lead to bugs/downtime or not. If you think the command is working 100%, why would you say no to run it on 1000s of machines all at once?
- pshirshov 4y agoYeah, it was extremely easy to fuck up. In some cases though you might have wanted to run something on thousands of hosts to debug a tricky issue. Bad practices, I know.
- DCNick3 4y agoIt's eventual consistency all the way, so it actually doesn't really know how many machines are there
- lostmsu 4y agoThat does not necessarily mean it could not provide some useful info about that. E.g. it could run a ping on all eligible machines and show total count of responses in real time for the currently typed filter.
