The once-beautiful streets San Francisco ruined
- karaterobot 4y agoNo doubt a lot of SF looks worse now, but it should be possible to find better examples than these. Some of their modern examples look like improvements to me, others just look like they took a bad photograph in one case and a good one in the other. Others are explained by the fact that you have to build housing for people because there are more of them. Can't really hold it against a city if it's more populated than it was a hundred years ago.
- Lammy 4y ago> But while huge improvements — like the removal of the neighborhood-desecrating Central and Embarcadero freeways — made the city better Did it? They may not have been beautiful but they weren't such a huge barrier to pedestrian life like their boulevard-level replacements. Nobody ever had to wait for a protected crosswalk when the cars were all elevated. Several intersections of Octavia Blvd don't allow pedestrian crossing at all.
