My T1 package has been sitting on the shelf for months, will wait until the 7000 X3D models are available. I do hope the AM5 ITX mainboards will come down in price, the cheapest there is still costs 250€.
- BillinghamJ 4y agoI guess you'll need to be using an AIO for that? I previously had an AIO with the 5900X, but needed to switch to air cooling to allow for enough exhaust to keep the 4090 happy Although the 5800X3D technically has the same TDP, it seems that it pulls a lot less power for typical use, and is doing nicely with the Alpenföhn Black Ridge
- neogodless 4y agoCorsair 4000D with 2 exhaust fans, Corsair 360mm AIO for my 5900X (34° C idle, 42+ with any use). Radeon RX 6700 XT stays happy enough at 48-50°C idle and of course warmer during games. How hot was the 4090 getting?
- BillinghamJ 4y agoI didn't test it with the AIO in place, but with two Phanteks T30 fans as exhaust instead. In that config under GPU benchmarking for ~10 mins, the 4090 runs at about 70°C for the GPU and 80°C for the VRAM
- MrBuddyCasino 4y agoI haven't decided yet, if I can get away with air cooling the CPU that would be nice, but I'm not opposed to AIO. I won't run a 4090 in there.
- 0cf8612b2e1e 4y agoWhen I was looking into ITX builds, that was what gave me pause. A true premium price vs what you can get with uATX. Significantly bigger footprint, but I do not feel like I am paying for glamour.
- fest 4y agoYeah, I think it's the same idea as driving a sports car- the aesthetic and performance is without a doubt better, but it's rarely the pragmatic choice.
- alanfranz 4y agoYeah, I think micro ATX is a great format. You can fit anything in a very cheap case, mobos are economical, and air cooling works. Those extra small itx builds are interesting when you need power and some degree of portability for some reason, but a laptop doesn’t cut it (eg too noisy).
- BillinghamJ 4y agoOne thing I did find interesting though is that (well designed) sandwich ITX cases typically seem to have far better thermal behaviour than regular cases. No big cavity for heat to accumulate
