They want to sell our information, and nothing really changes for the consumer. If I connect my dishwasher to the wifi, what does that offer me? More advertising? I don't want that. Sign up for an account? To do what exactly? Tweet when I turn it on?
When there's a problem, it still doesn't diagnose it for me. I still have to look up some obscure E004 error code that may or may not be in their manual.
I have a dryer that gives me a "CARES" alert every 6 months. It just wants to be run in a 'cleaning' cycle - but the manual doesn't tell you how! Presumably so their consumers can call them for support every time it happens. I don't know.
I'll never connect an appliance to the network because I know it doesn't need that to function. I don't get any practical benefits from it, aside from being data-mined!
