I used to think that. Then I lived in Japan where not only do they not tip, they refuse tips. Haven't seen any issues with the service.
So no, tips do not promote a better customer experience.
- DrThunder 4y agoI feel like this is because Japanese are more culturally inclined to be "nice" and cordial. I agree it's possible to have a good custom experience without tipping but I do not agree that they don't promote better customer experience. Bonuses, tipping etc. are pretty powerful way of enticing people to be better at their jobs.
