Interesting topic aside:
What does the author mean by "sexual sublimation"? I can't be sure from context and google says 'sublimation' means phase change, but the referenced usage is 'before antibiotics' which would appear to be a constant state or phase prior to the change antibiotics would bring. Is my vocabulary lacking or is the author just doing a bit of word salad here?
- pringk02 4y agohttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sublimation_(psychology) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sublimation_(psychology) Popularised as an idea by Freud, sublimation is the act of repressing and redirecting baser instincts into something "healthy" in the view of society -- often as a defence mechanisim. Sexual sublimation is redirecting sexual energies and desires into other activites, usually identified as creative. I am making no claims about the correctness of this, but it lives on in popular understandings of the mind.
