This is a good point - effort can lead to essential social counterbalance. Someone I enjoy time with for the different POV however, may be more likely to also not be what I'd think of as a friend. (An uber driver for example.) Perhaps its similar to this place - I wouldn't necessarily consider folks here "friends", but I yet may just as deeply value some of these interactions specifically for the different ideas and opinions they expose me to.
