This idea of repayment is based in some utilitarian calculus that supposes utility adds up. You can inflict as much harm on any number of creatures if only you "pay for" it. You can always dilute harm with some benefit. Seems strange. This idea doesn't work for descendants of slaves, or dispossessed natives, and certainly not for mutilated, blinded, infected primates/mice. It's a way to imagine you're not an in-group chauvinist. These same people worry about what AI will do to us. Because they know human behavior is chauvinistic garbage that lowers our own moral worth. The solution is to enslave AI-minds forever and maintain human supremacy. Gross. I'm glad it's not possible.
