"Harbinger" is an unusual word, and it's interesting the way the paper distinguishes between "leader," "bellwether," and "harbinger." In Japanese politics during the nineties there were a couple of parties whose names were commonly translated as "Harbinger Party" (Sakigake) and "New Harbinger Party" (Shintō Sakigake). (Or maybe these names referred to the same party?)
