Well in some states having a Masters in Math would not qualify you to teach math because you do not have a Teaching Degree...
Government regulations rarely make any logical sense
- jackson1442 4y agoa masters in math doesn't necessarily mean you're good at teaching it, see anyone with a computer science degree.
- slowmovintarget 4y agoBut it usually means you had to actually attempt teaching math and have some experience in practice. That's part of what a Master's degree is supposed to mean, unless that, too, has diminished.
- SauciestGNU 4y agoI have a MS in computer science. I had an assistantship but I did research and curriculum development without actually ever teaching anything. Just one data point.
- red-iron-pine 4y agoI have a Masters and have never had to teach anyone anything. I wasn't aware that it was a requirement. PhDs -- yes. They're expected to teach or TA. Most of my mentoring and tutoring experience came from new hires at work.
- jonathankoren 4y agoYou can get a phd and never be a TA. You just always have paid research assistantships.
