British boy who taught himself to read aged two joins Mensa
- dredmorbius 4y agoAmong various other hazards associated with intelligence measurement and the Stanford–Binet test specifically, the measurement is age-normalised, which means that a given IQ score aged four is relative to peers, and is not directly comparable to adults. So far as I know, Mensa follow this standard, so the admission has more to do with the organisation permitting a younger member than with a four year old necessarily out-scoring adults on an absolute basis. The history of youthful prodigies is decidedly mixed, though a 2016 article suggests above-average adult accomplishments and satisfaction (based on research from the 1940s & '50s). <https://www.saturdayeveningpost.com/2016/07/fate-child-prodigies/ https://www.saturdayeveningpost.com/2016/07/fate-child-prodi...>
