The Problems with Helion Energy – A Response to Real Engineering
- garyclarke27 4y agoThis video is well reasoned and seems plausible but so does Helion. I hope Helion proves him wrong, would be amazing to have container size fusion plants. Also direct electricity generation ie cutting out the heated steam phase - would be a game changer. Sam Altman is super smart, I doubt he would put $375M of his personal wealth into a dumb idea, which this video implies.
- programmer_dude 4y agoSam Altman may be super smart but is he a nuclear physicist?
- Schroedingersat 4y agoThere have been plenty of billionaires put a few hundred million into a product they know is a sham with the intent to make a profit. The saleable output of 'revolutionary' tech startups isn't the product, it's a story that sells shares. That said, I think there's a reasonable chance Helion has realised this and is just playing the same pantomime with the intent of doing real engineering with the proceeds even though they know a product is unlikely. Sort of a reverse scam.
