Google Play Store will be forced to house other app stores by next week in India
- hypothesis 4y ago>Google would also be forced to allow access to the Play Store on Android “forks,” heavily customized versions of the platform. I wonder how such requirements would affect certain apps, say banking apps, that need hw attestation or similar things.
- tadfisher 4y agoIt would only affect devices without Play Services installed, same as today.
- kotaKat 4y agoThey already allow Play Store on uncertified devices and even say it's for people that use custom ROMs. No need to 'force' them. https://www.google.com/android/uncertified/ https://www.google.com/android/uncertified/
- bagacrap 4y agoclearly no one here believes it's possible to comply with this order on such a compressed timeline, but how does the judicial authority believe it's in any way possible?
- thinking4real 4y agoThis was a decision by a supreme court over a year after the initial ruling Even if google was blinded by this, why exactly can’t this corporation let other stores in its store within a weeks time? How complicated is this exactly in your opinion?
- bagacrap 4y agoI guess I imagined that "store in a store" I involved some kind of API that allows third parties to integrate with the Google store and list its own apps along Google-vetted apps. If all it requires is that the Valve store app be listed in the Google play store, I guess that's not so hard. As far as the time since the initial ruling, why would you spend immense resources implementing something that you were fighting in court?
- thinking4real 4y agoBecause you’re just using the courts to stall and prevent competition to generate profit. You know you’ll lose and the courts know you know you’ll lose.
- bagacrap 4y agoDoesn't sound like a very good court system of the outcome is a foregone conclusion.
- reusable_batt 4y agoWill Apple too be forced to comply with their App Store?
- ThatPlayer 4y agoThis is an anti-trust ruling from the Competition Commission of India. Google has a dominant market position, while Apple's is minuscule in India. So they're probably not concerned about Apple.
