Project Trident, based on Void Linux, was one of the successor projects. A lot of the users ran TrueOS because it wasn't Linux, so migrating the userbase TO Linux was a hard sell. It didn't help that there wasn't a lot of polish on Trident, and it offered very little above/beyond a normal Linux desktop.
- arp242 4y agoIt looks like Project Trident was also discontinued? One of the appeals of PC-BSD back in the day (I was involved a long time ago, well before it rebranded to TrueOS) was that it had "fat packages", which was conceptually similar to flatpack and such, or how software on Windows is typically distributed. You ended up with /Programs/Firefox, /Programs/GIMP, etc. which were mostly self-contained copies of the software + dependencies.
