Not all people are the same, but, I think the amount of sugars we eat that break down to yield significant levels proportion of fructose -- is the biggest culprit and the food industry knows it. Some foods it's added in directly and labelled as sugar.
The reason I know the food industry or some part of it aware, is because I've written about fructose at large but unassuming forums and been stunned by the fall out.
After trying out a version of an experiment done on rats with a fructose free diet reported in the "New Scientist" mid 90s, (a couple of years after it was written,) on myself, I was convinced. I didn't easily have the means to remove all fructose, what I did do was replace sucrose with glucose plus sweetener for drinks and self made food. No bought desserts iirc, but still occasionally eating fast food. It worked too well but I wish I'd not been too embarrassed to take a pillow to sit on until I had adjusted to having less padding on the backside. Later during the 00's I would comment on it, usually without much detail. Forums tend to die off suddenly, the second time a forum died off after a protracted discussion on the mid 90s findings and how well it worked, I thought that was very very odd and wasn't really keeping track of the vast numbers of forums I had surfed. The next post at another different very healthy large forum, I was telling myself it was all just coincidence ... next day that forum was dead, gone, buried.
Since Harvard published similar findings only a handful of years ago, it seems maybe in the 10's there's so much disinformation floating about there's less reason to immediately shut down the topic maybe it's just too much fructose; noting that I've seen and participated in a couple of forums discussion about it, where nothing happened.
P.S.. The amount of fructose in fruit is really not much compared to what's been added into some processed foods. I know better but I still probably have 20 teaspoons or more of sucrose a day in hot drinks ... equates to ten teaspoons of fructose.
If anyone wants to read further on other things fructose does which isn't so good ...
