It arguably turned the election in favor of the Republican. The man who specifically chose to announce that investigation, former FBI Director James Comey, was appointed by President Obama and fired by President Trump. He also (quite rightly in my opinion) pushed back against Trump's attempts to exert undue influence on the Justice Department. He testified against Trump before Congress. Calling Comey a conservative partisan strains belief. Had Comey chosen to delay his announcement, it would've made the list in my comment above. As I understand it based on his public statements, that's exactly why he chose to go public rather than keep silent. He was caught between a rock and a hard place. I'm glad he opted for disclosure over concealment.
