Thinking about this, I don't know a single book that has an economical and/or political focus that doesn't in some way or another criticize the status quo or at least challenge our understanding of it. In fact I doubt such a book would be worth reading at all.
- mcswell 4y agoI would find such a book worth reading, I think. I came to this book expecting to learn about pre-history. I did learn some of that, but I also got a heavy dose of what seems to me to be ax grinding, along the lines of "Most people other than us have gotten pre-history and its accompanying interpretations of politics etc. wrong." That's interesting, doubtless important (assuming other experts don't succeed in shooting down those interpretations), etc., but it's not the book I was looking for. For me, the interesting part was about 25%, and the other 75% more or less got in the way.
