What Tech and Media Layoffs Say About the Economy
- dsq 4y agoThese will eventually percolate out into the general economy as fired people don’t buy cars, houses or expensive meals.
- x86x87 4y agoNot only that. I think the tech sector is the proverbial canary in the coal mine. I would not be shocked at all if the layoffs extend everywhere. This + upcoming elections? You guess how many clown can fit in this car!
- mark_l_watson 4y agoFirst: really shitty for the approximately 130K families affected by the big tech corporations layoffs. There is no doubt that the economy will continue to take a hit. Here in the USA I think we are in a fairly good position compared to many other countries, and I am grateful for that. That said, when the US loses "reserve currency status" sometime in the future, that will be a huge hit to our economy. I hope that is a long time in the future, but who knows. I think that all countries really need to double down on educating not only young people but also middle age and older workers who need to be able to learn new skills and be agile in the job market.
