Same. We've been smacking kids for tens of thousands of years to protect them and society and somehow we went to the moon. There is a difference between smacking kids and abusing them. I got smacked, but in a way that was traumatizing(?) as I remember every second of it decades later. Still, it did actually encourage me to improve the thing I got smacked about and probably led to me being as successful as I am (such as it were.)
