I did this last year, and it was a pain in the ass. I did it out of spite because HR Block tried to force me to pay exorbitant amounts for their advanced filing which I definitely didn't need. If you do this, set aside an entire evening and expect to do only taxes. It isn't exactly hard, but the number of documents you need available can get large quickly. Instructions are confusing and there's a lot of cross-referencing. It's very tedious, but totally approachable for most people, I think.
