Queen Elizabeth II left a ‘secret’ letter that will stay unopened until 2085
- dokem 4y agoX-ray?
- DougMerritt 4y agoScience Fiction author Robert A. Heinlein (Stranger in a Strange Land, The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, etc) left his voluminous files to UC Santa Cruz -- with a stipulation that certain sections were to remain private and unexamined until 50 years after his death. Sometimes I think people do that sort of thing to wait to unveil evidence of (let's say) animosity with other public figures until the person in question will be safely dead, but it's always fun to speculate on other possiblities. For instance, maybe the queen always hated her job, but didn't want to say so. :)
- pyuser583 4y agoGiven Heinlein’s unconventional personal life, I don’t think it’s much of mystery what’s sealed.

- DougMerritt 4y agoThey're talking about various rumors that Heinlein had an unconventional sexual lifestyle, as did characters in many of his books. I personally hadn't heard of any of those rumors being proven as fact, but there were always lots of people who took them at face value anyway. Another mystery (to me) is that I could've sworn that Heinlein had at least one child, but last time I checked, I couldn't see any trace of that on the web, not even rumors. Maybe I just have a faulty memory about that.
- bamboozled 4y agoThe title isn't great, I think it reads like she wrote it recently, on her death bed so it might imply something more sinister or secretive; However, she left the letter to the residents of Sydney, in 1986 when she visited Sydney.
