A friend had been an actress for a decade, then became a SWE. How? Enrolled in a CS masters program, got a degree, got a job. Entry level but much better than mildly successful acting, where you have to audition (interview for your job) many many times a year. So you're not too old. The path depends on whether going to school full time will work for you. You don't need a degree from a fancy school to start over, community colleges have plenty of great classes. But if you can't put in some time to get sharp at something, it might have to be a different path.
