Call me a pathological contrarian, but I try to step extra carefully when dealing with a matter where there doesn't seem to be room for any sympathy. More often than not, it's those obviously-righteous times that have led to my behaving like the biggest ass. Better to do a happy thing with a smile on your face, and a grim thing with no expression at all.
